This symbol is believed to be Greek in origin. It was adopted by the Celtic Druids and Christian monks, because of its depiction of three (creation, preservation, and destruction for the Celts - and the Holy Trinity for the Christians). This pattern generates a 23 x 23 inch applique quilted wallhanging from 4 fabrics. The inner background (black in the picture 18 x 18) requires a fat quarter. The other three call for 23 x 23 inch pieces.
